Triumph Speed Triple RR Coming Soon with Half-Fairing

The new Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS is just hitting dealerships now, but it would seem that the British brand isn’t done with its streetfighter lineup.

Teasing what the folks at Hinckley are calling the Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RR, we will see the new model arriving in September of this year.

The teaser video doesn’t show too much at first sight, mostly a clay modeler working on various body pieces. At the end of the teaser though, we get a profile shot, which shows an enclosed fairing for the cockpit.

Manipulating the photo further (see below), we can see that Triumph is not working on a full fairing design for the Speed Triple 1200 (technically that would make it the Daytona 1200, we imagine), but instead seems to have a half-fairing bike on order with a solo seat.

With a retro-inspired round headlight also integrated into the fairing, Triumph seems to be riffing on the idea behind the Kawasaki Z900RS, with a sort of modern café racer being created for the Speed Triple lineup.

For go-fast bits, we would expect a spec level comparable to the Speed Triple RS, though Triumph could surprise us here, especially if the British brand has a particular price point in mind.

This would mean a 178hp three-cylinder engine, and low-400 lbs curb weight, along with the usual electronic wizardry.

Sensing a space in the high-performance, large-displacement neo-retro space, it is hard to lineup the upcoming Triumph Speed Triple RR against a competitor – the Honda CB1000R, perhaps?

Triumph says that they will debut the design prototype in September, which is just around the corner. Many of our questions will be answered then about this surprise addition to Triumph lineup.
