Paddock Pass Podcast Episode 244 – WorldSBK at Portimão

Episode 244 of the Paddock Pass Podcast is out, and it is a WorldSBK show, which means that this one sees Steve English and Gordon Ritchie on the mics.

After some technical difficulties trying to publish earlier shows, this episode sees the guys recapping the racing and news from both the Jerez and Portimão rounds.

Of course, this means we have to discuss the untimely death of Dean Berta Viñales, and the changes that are occurring in motorcycle racing because of that incident and others that have occurred this year.

In that discussion, Gordo and Steve dive into what should be done in the lower classes of races, and debate what the fundamental role of these classes should be for fans and young racers.

The guys also give some time to talking about Garrett Gerloff, as the American has seen his crew chief replaced by Yamaha, as the manufacturer tries to reel in the young American’s more wild instincts on the track.

Steve and Gordo muse about what could be happening behind the scenes in the Yamaha camp when it comes to Gerloff, and that topic seems likely to spill into the 2022 season.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Superbike show from this season if we didn’t talk about the ongoing battle between Jonathan Rea and Toprak Razgatlıoglu.

In this edition, the guys look at Rea’s fight back during Race 2 at Portugal, which kept his championship hopes alive and showed the grit of the Northern Irish rider.

The show finishes with a look at the BMW Motorrad effort, which is being handled by Shaun Muir Racing. The team will have Scott Redding at the helm, so there is some discussion about the Brit’s switch of machinery for next year.

All in all, it is an insightful show that is sure to give you a better look at what is going on behind the scenes in the WorldSBK Championship paddock.
