Both rigs are extremely nimble thanks in part to the fact that they are a scant 50 inches wide. That helps them sneak between trees, improves ease of use on the job site, and allows them to be transported without a trailer if you have a big enough pickup. The 500 and 520 use 475cc and 518cc powerplants, respectively, that give the 1,027- and 1,058-pound machines plenty of shove. Both use a five-speed automatic transmission that can be shifted manually. The Pioneer isn’t a powerhouse, but it does bring with it a unique position in the market and we’re glad to see it sticking around for the new year.
