For the third time this month, we have crossed over the Atlantic ocean to ride a brand new Italian motorcycle. It is a tough job, but someone has to do it.
This edition of “Gone Riding” sees us getting ready to ride the new Ducati Panigale V4 superbike, which gets a bevy of updates for the 2022 model year.
Ducati has us testing this new Panigale V4 at the Jerez circuit, with the MotoGP track being a popular destination to put a motorcycle through its paces.
We will be riding the European-spec of the Panigale V4 S, which means there will be 214 hp on tap, rather than the US model’s 207 hp power figure.
The torque curves between the two machines is rather different as well, with the Euro bike making 91.2 lbs•ft at 9,500 rpm, whereas the US bike makes 90.6 lbs•ft at 11,000 rpm.
Those differences are due to the Euro5 homologation requirement, which is a little bit different than what is required by the EPA. Such is life.
My goal for the test is to see how the 2022 Ducati Panigale V4 S compares to its predecessor, especially in terms of ease-of-riding and front-end feel, both items Bologna is boasting about on this edition of its superbike.
