High-performance suspension components, full underbody skid plate protection, and a host of rock-crawling-specific tweaks
The 64-inch-wide rig goes without a host of features that the 72-inch vehicle offers as standard, like a roof, beadlock wheels, four-point harnesses, and half doors. The 72-inch-wide trim is the most expensive two-seat side-by-side that Can-Am sells.
Can-Am tries to offer the same rock-crawling trim package for two different budgets. The 64-inch-wide trim aims for the more budget-minded buyers while the 72-inch-wide trim shatters wallets with its impressive feature list.
A seemingly understated trim of the Maverick X3 offers some of the most advanced performance of the entire lineup. The RC trim package stands for “rock crawling” and Can-Am delivers spectacular value in the 72-inch-wide vehicle, with premium suspension, full underbody protection, cockpit enclosure, tall beadlock tires, and racing seats equipped with four-point harnesses. The 72 is also the most expensive two-seat side-by-side Can-Am sells. While the 64 goes without a host of these impressive features, it still caters to the buyers looking for rock-crawling-specific needs with skid plates, Maxxis Liberty tires, and impressive recovery points. However, the 64-inch-wide trim offers the least suspension travel when compared to the entire Maverick X3 lineup.
Updates for 2022
No major changes for 2022 aside from every X3 unit receiving Smart-Lok differential locking technology and the slight increase in engine power output from 195 to 200 hp.

The 72-inch-wide model is on our dream list with its jaw-dropping catalog of standard parts and spec sheet. If you need to hit a budget or if you need a rig for more narrow trails, grab the 64-inch-wide trim.
Powertrain: Engine, Transmission, and Performance
Both RC trim levels use the refreshed 900cc Rotax ACE three-cylinder turbocharged engine producing 200 hp. Can-Am’s PDrive and QRS-X CVT manage transferring power to the axles through a Smart-Lok-equipped drivetrain. Smart-Lok technology offers four different traction modes that can be adjusted on the fly by the driver to maximize traction across a variety of terrain.
Standard Fox 2.5 Podium QS3 suspension components handle articulation on the RC 64 trim, offering an adequate 18 inches of suspension travel. The RC 72 trim jumps to front Fox 2.5 and rear Fox 3.0 Podium RC2 components that offer an insane 24 inches of suspension travel. While the QS3 system offers single damping controls, the RC2 suspension lets an owner dial in high-speed compression, low-speed compression, and rebound damping. The rear RC2 shocks use remote reservoirs mounted to the rear roll cage uprights and provide 2 feet of articulation for crushing those rocky stairsteps, boulder fields, and deep rut-outs.
The front axle uses large 262mm vented rotors that come wrapped by hydraulic twin-piston calipers. The rear axle gets by with slightly smaller 248mm vented rotors with the same hydraulic twin-piston calipers. Braking performance is strong and predictable, easily modulated through technical boulder fields.
Ergonomics: Comfort and Utility
Inside the RC 64 cockpit buyers will find the typical list of Maverick X3 features: race-inspired four-way-adjustable seats, heavy bolstering, and an adjustable steering wheel. The RC 72 cockpit ups the ante with four-point harnesses, half doors, and an aluminum roof. Both trims offer a central rearview mirror.
The RC 72 also includes additional vehicle protection. Extra roll cage bracing, in the form of intrusion bars, sits between the two A-pillars. Full underbody HMWPE skid plates protect the chassis, differentials, and front/rear suspension components. UHMWPE rock sliders protect the lower body corners of the vehicle from sliding across rock ledges.
The rear cargo area is rated to hold 200 pounds with the LinQ quick-attach system.
While no towing hitch receiver is present on any Maverick X3 model, recovery hooks are supplied on both ends of the RC vehicles. These are not rated for towing, only vehicle recovery.
A 7.6-inch digital dash display sits in front of the steering wheel to allow the driver to monitor various vehicle metrics on both the 64- and 72-inch-wide trims. Speedometer, tachometer, odometer, trip- and hourmeters, fuel, gear position, Sport and Eco modes, seatbelt and 4×4 indicator, front and rear diff lock indicators, diagnostics, clock, battery voltage, engine temperature, and DPS mode are all available to be monitored on the dash via keypad system.
Full LED lighting is used throughout each vehicle, powered by a strong 850-watt magneto that offers plenty of room to bolt on additional power-hungry accessories.
A 4,500-pound winch, with synthetic rope, is included as a standard feature.
