Ups
The MR trim comes in every length and width Can-Am offers. Full half doors to help keep the elements out of the cockpit. Front and rear tow hooks. A 4,500-pound winch, with synthetic line, included as standard kit. Additional front skid protection. Stretched snorkels to elevate machine air intake.
Downs
No roof, no windshield, no full doors, and no fender liners. Average 30-inch tires on mud models seems like an oversight.
Verdict
You’re essentially looking at the same base Turbo RR rig with a few changes like mud tires, half doors, and different colors. You’re still getting the same chassis, Fox 2.5 Podium suspension, driveline, and cockpit that all the other X3 Turbo RR models offer.
Overview
The Maverick X3 X MR Turbo RR models come in 64-inch, 72-inch, and Max four-seat trims. They’re each engineered for performance on muddy, wet trails with their open-lugged ITP Cryptid 30-inch-tall tires. The MR machines share Can-Am’s most advanced chassis and drivetrain with other Turbo RR models, but offer a few minor upgrades like half doors, extended snorkels, synthetic line winch, and extra protection and recovery features.
Updates for 2022
No major changes for 2022 aside from every X3 unit receiving Smart-Lok differential locking technology and the slight increase in engine power output from 195 to 200 hp.

We’d have the 64-inch MR for the tighter trails we frequent on the East Coast. It also fits into the typical deep ruts found on most trails around these parts. The 72-inch machines are what we’d pick for nearly any other situation since they come with more suspension travel and tend to be a bit more stable.
Powertrain: Engine, Transmission, and Performance
Each MR trim uses the refreshed 900cc Rotax ACE triple-cylinder turbocharged engine producing 200 hp. Can-Am’s PDrive and QRS-X CVT handle transferring all that power to the axles. Each drive system benefits from a special extended snorkel structure to help breathe clean moisture-free air. Smart-Lok is offered on all three machines to ensure maximum traction when you need it the most.
Handling
The 64-inch-wide MR trim offers the least suspension travel out of the Maverick X3 lineup at 18 inches. The other two trims receive the full breadth of their shared platform’s articulation at 22 inches. Handling is predictably good thanks to the quality Fox 2.5 Podium QS3 piggyback shocks with damping and bottom-out control. Hard-packed surface traction suffers due to the ITP Cryptid mud tires. You’ll want to stick to the wet loose terrain or these tires will evaporate.
Brakes
Large 262mm vented rotors are wrapped by hydraulic twin-piston calipers up front. The rear gets slightly smaller 248mm vented rotors with the same hydraulic twin-piston calipers. Braking performance is strong and easily maintained even when sending it through mud fields on the regular.
Ergonomics: Comfort and Utility
A standard Maverick X3 interior is found on the MR trims. Race-inspired heavily bolstered seats can be easily converted to five-point harnesses. The seats and steering wheel offer adjustability to dial in the perfect ergonomics. Visibility is good from the low-set seating position and narrow hood. Utility, while virtually nonexistent on any Maverick X3 model, does benefit from the rear Can-Am LinQ quick-attach system in the rear rack area. You also get a glove box, center console, and several cupholders.
We’d like to have seen a bit more weatherproofing on the MR trim, however. Can-Am does include half doors, but does not include even a basic plastic roof on the trim meant to play in the wet stuff.
Payload/Towing
The rear rack is rated to hold 200 pounds with the LinQ quick-attach system on the two-seat chassis. The four-seat chassis is rated for 150 pounds.
While no towing hitch receiver is present on any Maverick X3 model, recovery hooks are supplied on both ends of the MR vehicles. These are not rated for towing.
Electronics
A 7.5-inch digital dash display sits in front of the steering wheel to allow the driver to monitor various vehicle metrics. Speedometer, tachometer, odometer, trip- and hourmeters, fuel, gear position, Sport and Eco modes, seatbelt and 4×4 indicator, front and rear diff lock indicators, diagnostics, clock, battery voltage, engine temperature, and DPS mode are all available to be monitored on the dash via keypad system.
Full LED lighting is used throughout each vehicle, powered by a strong 850-watt magneto that offers plenty of room to bolt on additional power-hungry accessories.
A 4,500-pound winch, with synthetic rope, is included as a standard feature.
Warranty and Maintenance Coverage
A six-month limited warranty is included with every Maverick X3 model. Extended warranty options are available at time of purchase.
