Argo joins the 700cc ATV class with all-new models that pack a lot of value into an affordable price. Both the EPS and LE XR 700 models come with electric power steering, a winch, and other features we expect to see on higher-priced ATVs. Pricing and Which One to Buy
2022 Argo Xplorer XR 700 EPS MSRP: $8,799
2022 Argo Xplorer XR 700 LE MSRP: $9,399
The Xplorer XR 700 EPS model can be had in dark green or red. It comes with 25-inch Maxxis tires mounted on 12-inch steel wheels. For $600 more, the Xplorer XR 700 LE gets painted plastic body panels in silver or orange, 26-inch Maxxis Bighorns mounted on stylish aluminum wheels, and hand guards.
Powertrain: Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The fuel-injected 695cc single-cylinder is liquid-cooled. The four-stroke design uses four valves and a single overhead cam. Maintenance appears simple enough with features like an automotive screw-on oil filter. The automatic CVT transmission offers high and low range operation along with engine-braking. Both 2WD and 4WD can be selected electronically on the fly, and a locking front differential is standard.
Handling: Steering and Suspension
Double A-arm suspension can be found at all four corners. Preload-adjustable shocks provide 7 inches of travel up front and 7.4 inches at the rear. Ground clearance of 10.8 inches is par for the course. Electric power steering is standard on the EPS and LE model.
Dual hydraulic discs are located at the front wheels. A single hydraulic rear disc slows the rear.
Ergonomics: Comfort and Utility
Argo boasts about “superior comfort,” and the pictures look the part. Seat foam looks thick and contoured—easy to move around on. Large floorboards offer plenty of room. Raised footpegs provide plenty of grip to boots of varying size. We really like the integrated hand guards on the LE model, which offer protection from the elements. Lockable storage for personal items is provided in the front fender and center console.
The front rack can handle up to 120 pounds of cargo, 240 pounds on the rear rack. A standard 2-inch receiver can handle up to 1,050 pounds.
Headlights, brake lights, and taillights are all halogens. We prefer LEDs. The 2WD and 4WD functions are controlled electronically on the handlebars. A digital instrument panel includes odometer, speedometer, tripmeter, rpm, transmission position, 2WD/4WD/lock indicator, fuel gauge, and lights for temperature, low-battery, high beam, and check engine.
